Q&A - Heart Transplant Recipient
As a former MA, Amanda has such great perspective, insight, and advice for us as a profession!! Please tune in!
Amanda Gabaldon lives in Rio Rancho New Mexico. At 28 years old, Amanda developed a rare form of heart failure during pregnancy called peri partum cardiomyopathy. After being misdiagnosed several times, Amanda went into cardiac arrest at 5 weeks post partum. Medication therapy did not work, and Amanda was transported to UC San Diego where she was emergently implanted with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) and at 8 months post partum received her new heart. Amanda is now 6 years post xplant and shares her story with several foundations, medical organizations and government officials in hopes of normalizing transplants as well as bring more education and awareness to women's heart health and early detection.
